Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh McCown will be the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, replacing Mike Glennon.

McCown began the season as the starting quarterback, but suffered a sprained thumb in a Week 3 game against Atlanta. Glennon took over and had started every game since, including the last two when McCown was recovered and again ready to play.

Glennon revealed the news during a radio program on Tuesday and quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo made the announcement Wednesday.

"I'm ready to help this team," said McCown on Wednesday. "I just want to win games. "I'm excited about the opportunity."

McCown struggled through the first three games this season, completing 43- of-68 passes for 420 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. The Bucs lost all three games.

"The things I did the first three games ... other than the turnovers, I thought I threw the ball well," McCown added. "I made bad decisions. I think I'm in a better place than that right now."

Glennon has thrown for 1,417 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions in his six games this season. He helped Tampa Bay to its lone win of the year in his first start in Week 4 against Pittsburgh, but the Bucs have dropped four straight since -- two in overtime -- and are 1-7 entering this Sunday's game.

"At this point, it's about helping the guys and finding a way to win a ballgame," McCown said. "That's what matters. We've gone through a lot. We've faced adversity, more than our share this year."

The Bucs haven't scored more than 17 points in any of their last three games.
