Marty Mornhinweg insists the New York Jets' offense needs to get better, and it all begins with him in his role as coordinator.

Rookie quarterback Geno Smith and the Jets have been up and down through the first eight games, a consistent inconsistency that has led to a 4-4 record. The Jets have the 17th-ranked overall offense, which includes being the No. 13 rushing team and 22nd passing.

Mornhinweg says Thursday that New York needs to "take some steps forward this week," a tough task considering the Jets take on one of the NFL's toughest defenses in the New Orleans Saints.

Smith has eight touchdowns and 13 interceptions, but Mornhinweg says he has been mostly impressed by the quarterback despite the mistakes.
