The Seattle Mariners placed pitcher Dan day disabled list with a bruised left ankle and selected the A Tacoma Tuesday.

Cortes tossed 2/3 of an inning of relief in the first portion of Tuesday's double-header against the Cleveland Indians before leaving with the injury.

He has an 0-2 record with a 3.48 ERA in nine appearances out of Seattle's bullpen this season.

Vasquez will make his major league debut in the second portion of the double- header as the starter for the Mariners.

Seattle selected Vasquez in the 18th round of the 2009 amateur draft and he has split time with Double-A Jackson and Triple-A Tacoma this season, carrying a combined 9-10 record and a 3.57 earned run average.

Seattle also released infielder Matt Mangini from Tacoma on Tuesday.
