TORONTO (Reuters) - The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired puck-moving defenseman John-Michael Liles from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a second round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the two teams said on Friday.

Liles, who has been with the Avalanche for all his seven NHL seasons, registered six goals and a career-high 40 assists last season.

The 30-year-old American, who was selected by Colorado in the fifth round of the 2000 draft, has 68 goals and 207 assists in 523 career games and has recorded 31 or more points in every campaign.
