Vancouver forward Manny Malhotra underwent a second successful eye procedure on Tuesday. The Canucks said the procedure was done after further consultation with specialists and team doctors.
"Manny Malhotra's health continues to be our primary concern. Progress updates will be made available at the appropriate time. No further comment is planned at this time," the team said in a statement.
The 30-year-old was injured March 16 when a puck deflected off the stick of Colorado defenseman Erik Johnson and struck Malhotra's eye. The Canucks announced five days later that Malhotra would miss the rest of the season. Vancouver leads the overall NHL standings with less than two weeks remaining in the season.
Vancouver signed Malhotra to a three-year free-agent contract last summer to anchor the third line. He was second in the NHL with a 61.7 winning percentage on faceoffs and a key to Vancouver's penalty-killing, which had improved from 18th in the NHL last season to second when he was hurt.
