Italee Lucas scored 16 of her 20 points in the first half to help No. 10 North Carolina rout Wake Forest 71-56 on Thursday night.

She had six points before Wake Forest got on the board and the Tar Heels (17-2, 3-1 ACC) led 12-2 less than 5 minutes into the game. They were never seriously threatened by the cold-shooting Demon Deacons.

Trailing 36-16, Wake Forest scored the final six points of the half to cut its deficit to 14. The Demon Deacons came withint 12 in the second half, but a 9-1 run by the Tar Heels ended any hope of a comeback.

Laura Broomfield added 19 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina, which was coming off an embarassing loss on Monday to Connecticut. Broomfield played most of the second half as Jessica Breland was sideline with a leg injury suffered late in the first half.

Chelsea Douglas scored 16 points to lead Wake Forest (10-10, 1-3).
