Lorenzi, Bellucci win openers in Quito

Quito, Ecuador (SportsNetwork.com) - Italian Paolo Lorenzi and Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci were first-round winners Tuesday at the Ecuador Open.

The fifth-seeded Lorenzi came from behind to beat Spaniard Adrian Menendez- Maceiras 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) at this clay court event.

Bellucci, the sixth seed, fought past Ecuadorian wild card Giovanni Lapentti 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2.

Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Serb Dusan Lajovic served up 10 aces in getting past Italian Luca Vanni 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 and eighth-seeded Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic beat Brazilian qualifier Andre Ghem 6-4, 6-4 to advance.

Also on Day 2, Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver outlasted Hungarian wild card Marton Fucsovics 3-6, 6-4, 6-4; Colombian Alejandro Falla overcame Brazilian Joao Souza 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-4; Argentine qualifier Renzo Olivo snuck past Russian Evgeny Donskoy 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-1; qualifier Gerald Melzer doused fellow Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 1-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (8-6); Chilean qualifier Nicolas Jarry overtook Gonzalo Escobar 2-6, 6-4, 6-3; and Colombian Alejandro Gonzalez erased Argentine Facundo Bagnis 6-2, 6-4.

The top seeds in Quito are Spanish left-hander Feliciano Lopez, Colombian Santiago Giraldo and another Spanish southpaw, former top-10 star Fernando Verdasco. Lopez will open up against the aforementioned Gonzalez in the second round.

This week's champion will claim $80,000.
