Southampton, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Liverpool's impressive run of form will be put to the test on Sunday when the club heads to St. Mary's to take on fourth-place Southampton.
The Reds have dropped just one match in their last 16 outings across all competitions, suffering an extra-time defeat to Chelsea in Capital One Cup action on Jan. 27.
But Liverpool's Premier League form has been steady, going unbeaten while posting 21 points from a possible 27 since its 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Dec. 14.
A run of four wins and a draw from its last five league contests has put Liverpool level with Chelsea atop the form table. It also has reignited the club's pursuit of a top-four finish, lifting the Reds to seventh place on 42 points, just four points back of Southampton.
The Saints, though, also enter the clash with high hopes.
Winning three of its last five has left Southampton in good stead for Champions League football for next season, but the club's previous meeting with Liverpool earlier this term should give Ronald Koeman's men plenty of additional motivation to claim a positive result.
The two sides met on the opening day of the season with Liverpool tabbed as title contenders and Southampton considered relegation favorites, but the Saints battled admirably and would have come away from Anfield with a share of the spoils had Daniel Sturridge not claimed the winner 11 minutes from time.
Southampton went on to win eight of its next 10 league games, but lingering disappointment from a major scalp to open the season will have the Saints eager to pick up three points on Sunday.
Leading into Sunday's clash at St. Mary's, Everton will aim to build upon its comfortable victory in Europa League play when it welcomes lowly Leicester City to Goodison Park while Tottenham will remain at White Hart Lane for a London derby against West Ham United.
Chelsea was held to a 1-1 draw by PSG in Champions League action on Tuesday, and with several key players nursing niggling injuries, the Blues could be susceptible to dropped points against a plucky Burnley side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Manchester City, meanwhile, will be out to close the seven-point gap on Chelsea when the Citizens welcome Newcastle United to the Etihad.
Manchester United has suffered just one Premier League defeat in its last 15 outings, but the club's form away from home has left a lot to be desired, claiming just one win from its last five league matches away from Old Trafford. The Red Devils will be out to improve their road form at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday while avenging a 2-1 home loss to Swansea City in their first Premier League match under Louis van Gaal.
Arsenal rebounded from its derby defeat to Tottenham with a narrow 2-1 victory over Leicester last time out. The Gunners will hope to keep rolling against an in-form Crystal Palace side at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Rounding out Saturday's action, Aston Villa will attempt to climb out of the relegation zone with a positive result against Stoke City at Villa Park, Hull City and QPR will aim to pull further away from the danger area when they meet at the KC Stadium and West Bromwich Albion will look to increase its two-point lead over Sunderland when the Baggies head to the Stadium of Light.
