Liberty safety Jacob Hagen then intercepted Appalachian State quarterback Taylor Lamb in the end zone to stop the Mountaineers' OT possession and end the game.
Woodrum was 24-for-37 for 356 yards and three touchdowns with an interception, and rushed for a 13-yard touchdown with 6:19 to play in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 48-48.
D.J. Abnar carried the ball 29 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns, and Dante Shells had eight receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown for Liberty (4-3).
The win marks the Big South school's third over an FBS program.
Appalachian State (1-5), the three-time FCS national champion from 2005-07, is in its first year on the FBS level as a Sun Belt member.
