Larsson advances in Memphis

Seventh-seeded Swede Johanna Larsson needed two round match at the $220,000 Memphis International tennis event on Sunday.

Larsson outlasted qualifier Irena Pavlovic of France 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 on the indoor hardcourts at The Racquet Club of Memphis.

Eighth-seeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova was not so lucky, as she was ousted by American qualifier Jamie Hampton 7-6 (9-7), 6-0. Hampton only saved two of the five break opportunities she offered in the first set, but offered none in her shutout second set.

In other first round action, Italian Alberta Brianti bested Croatian Mirjana Lucic 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-1, Olga Govortsova knocked off Russian Vesna Dolonts 6-1, 7-5, and Russian Evgeniya Rodina defeated American Irina Falconi 6-1, 6-3.

Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova beat Canadian Rebecca Marino in last year's Memphis finale.

The 2012 winner here will collect $37,000.
