Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Norfolk State University announced Wednesday the Labor Day Classic football game will return to the Spartans' schedule in 2016 and continue in the following two seasons.
NSU, a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on the FCS level, will host a pair of its old Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals, first Elizabeth City State at Dick Price Stadium on Sept. 3, 2016, and then Virginia State on Sept. 2, 2017 and Sept. 1, 2018.
The Spartans played Virginia State on Labor Day weekend each year from 1991-2009 and again from 2011-12. The past two years, the Labor Day Classic wasn't played because of NCAA bylaws governing the first permissible start date for Division II football programs.
