Wroclaw, Poland – Vitali Klitschko held on to his WBC round technical knockout of Tomasz Adamek.
The fight was stopped 2:20 into the round by referee Massimo Barrovecchio after Klitschko (43-2, 40 KOs) connected on a flurry of punches.
The 40-year-old Ukrainian successfully defended his belt for the ninth time since beating Corrie Sanders by TKO in April 2004, with the title vacant.
The loss was Adamek's (44-2) first as a heavyweight. The Polish fighter had won 13 consecutive fights since dropping a unanimous decision to Chad Dawson in a WBC light heavyweight title bout on February 3, 2007.
