Kentucky again a unanimous No. 1 in men's hoops poll

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Kentucky is again a unanimous choice as the top-ranked men's basketball team in the country.

The Wildcats are the only unbeaten team in Division I men's basketball after Virginia's loss on Saturday against Duke. Kentucky, which was an undisputed top choice in the Associated Press poll for five weeks from December through early January, again received all 65 first-place votes this week from the nationwide media panel.

Virginia slipped just one spot from second to third after its 69-63 home loss to the Blue Devils, swapping places with fellow once-beaten Gonzaga. Duke remained fourth after splitting its two games last week, falling at Notre Dame before the win in Charlottesville.

Wisconsin, Arizona and Villanova all held their places from fifth through seventh, while Kansas and Louisville each moved up one spot to eighth and ninth, respectively.

Notre Dame, which followed the 77-73 home win over Duke with a 76-72 loss at Pittsburgh, dipped two spots to 10th. The Fighting Irish will visit Duke on Saturday after a home game against Boston College on Wednesday.

The second 10 consists of Iowa State, North Carolina, Utah, Northern Iowa, West Virginia, Wichita State, Maryland, VCU, Baylor and Ohio State. Northern Iowa moved up four spots from 18th after its win over Wichita State, which dropped four spots from 12th.

Oklahoma, Butler, SMU, Georgetown and Texas are the last five teams ranked this week. Texas managed to hold on to a spot in the top 25, falling six spots from 19th after road losses to Iowa State and Baylor last week.

Ohio State and SMU are newcomers this week, although both were ranked earlier this season. The Buckeyes were ranked all season until falling out of the poll three weeks ago, while the Mustangs were No. 22 in the preseason poll and fell out after mid-November losses to Gonzaga and Indiana.

Miami-Florida and Indiana dropped out this week. The Hurricanes were No. 23 and lost to Georgia Tech and Florida State, while the Hoosiers tumbled out from No. 22 after a loss at Purdue and a lackluster home win over Rutgers.

In addition to Saturday's Duke-Notre Dame rematch and Monday's battles between Virginia and North Carolina and Iowa State and Kansas, this week's schedule features a few other ranked matchups.

West Virginia will visit Oklahoma on Tuesday and will host Baylor on Saturday in the Big 12. A traditional Big East rivalry Saturday features Georgetown and Villanova in Philadelphia, while Virginia's difficult stretch continues with a Saturday evening visit from Louisville.
