Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl year contract extension Tuesday with an option for a second year.

The 32-year-old Kehl's contract was set to expire after this season, but has now committed his future to the Bundesliga champions.

"I'm very happy that the club and Sebastian reached an agreement. Right now we are seeing the best of Sebastian Kehl at BVB since I've come here," Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp said.

Kehl, who has 31 caps for Germany, has played mover 200 Bundesliga matches at Dortmund since joining from Freiburg in 2001.

"Borussia Dortmund are a very special club for me and my family," Kehl said. "As the longest-serving player at the club, I enjoy being involved in the process of shaping and advancing BVB's positive development."

Dortmund currently leads the Bundesliga.
