Jonas leaves it late for Valencia

Valencia moved into the top five in La Liga on Sunday as Jonas struck the winning goal in stoppage time of a 2-1 Valencia victory over Valladolid.

Mikel Balenziaga's first-half own goal handed Valencia the lead shortly before the break.

Henrique Sereno picked up a second yellow card in the 57th minute as Valladolid was reduced to 10 men, while the foul also gave Roberto Soldado the chance to double Los Che's lead from the penalty spot.

However, Valladolid goalkeeper Dani Hernandez kept the shot out, and the visitors snatched an unlikely equalizer with 20 minutes to play as Antonio Rukavina's right-wing cross was finished off in front of goal by Oscar.

It appeared that the home side would waste a great chance at earning all three points, but Jonathan Viera found space on the right to deliver a cross into the area that Jonas got up to head past Hernandez just before the final whistle.

The result moves Valencia to within two points of fourth-place Real Sociedad.

Getafe 0, Atletico Madrid 0

Falcao missed a great chance in the sixth minute when he pushed a shot wide from six yards, while he headed the ball straight at goalkeeper Jordi Codina shortly before halftime.

Getafe threatened with a free kick from Abdelaziz Barrada in the second half which went close, but any hope Atletico had took a hit as Suarez received his second yellow card in the 72nd minute for a handball in midfield, while Godin received his marching orders in the closing stages for a second bookable offense.

Piti put Rayo in front after 14 minutes following some nice work by winger Lass, while Leo Baptistao failed to beat Celta goalkeeper Javi Varas in a one- on-one situation before striking the post early in the second half.

Baptistao then left the match injured and was replaced by Andrija Delibasic, who made his mark on the contest in the final 10 minutes by wrapping up the win with his fifth goal of the season.

Jose Manuel Casado played provider and Delibasic made no mistake with his finish from six yards.
