New York Jets nose tackle Kenrick Ellis will miss four to six weeks of action with a "significant" knee injury, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Ellis suffered the injury against the Houston Texans on Monday night. He has 13 tackles in five games this season.

Ryan also said that safety Eric Smith sprained his knee during Wednesday's practice.

"He'll probably miss this week with it but I'll be honest, I thought it was going to be much worse than that. It's actually good news," Ryan said. "It's bad news he won't go this week but it's good news it's just a sprained knee."

The Jets play the Colts on Sunday.
