VANCOUVER - Hockey fans in Vancouver are decked out in blue and green as they prepare for a game that could send the Canucks to the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 17 years.
The Canucks have a 3-1 series lead over the San Jose Sharks as they head into Game 5 tonight, and fans' bold predictions of a win have some comparing the atmosphere in the city to last year's Winter Olympics.
Hockey jerseys have become acceptable office attire in some downtown workplaces, while flags hang inside area restaurants and flap out the windows of passing cars.
Mike Jackson, who manages a downtown store that sells jerseys and other team merchandise, says business has been increasing with each playoff win and it's been non-stop the day of Game 5.
Barb Timewell, whose federal government office is splashed with Canucks posters, says she's been a fan for 40 years and the time is ripe for the team to finally win the Stanley Cup.
Timewell says that devotion has meant four decades of ups and downs, including some close calls, but she's confident the team will not only advance to the final, but bring home the cup.
