(SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Blue Jays try to string back-to-back wins together on Wednesday when they close out a three-game series with the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park.
Toronto was shutout in the opener of a doubleheader on Tuesday, but rebounded in the nightcap, as Kevin Pillar homered twice and drove in a career-high four runs against former Cy Young winner Max Scherzer in the Blue Jays' 7-3 triumph.
Pillar hit a solo shot in the second, then put the Blue Jays up for good with a three-run homer in the sixth. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Toronto.
"Just a hanger over the plate," Nationals manager Matt Williams said of Pillar's second home run. "That being a different pitch, it could be a different story."
Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman each drove in a run in the opener and Harper went 2-for-4 in the nightcap with a run scored. Tyler Moore knocked in two for the Nationals, who have lost four of their last five.
Getting the call for the Blue Jays on Wednesday will be lefty Mark Buehrle, who went the distance to win his last start. Buehrle snapped a two-start losing streak on Friday in Minnesota, as he gave up four runs and six hits to improve to 6-4 to go along with a 4.97 ERA.
Buehrle has faced the Nats five times and is 2-0 with a 4.64 ERA.
Washington, meanwhile, will counter with righty Taylor Jordan, who lost his season debut on Friday in Cincinnati. After Stephen Strasburg left with a neck injury, the Reds roughed up Jordan to the tune of three runs and six hits in just 4 2/3 innings. He also walked a pair in the defeat.
Jordan, who'll likely get more opportunities with Strasburg and Doug Fister both sidelined, had a 5.61 ERA in five starts with the Nationals last season.
Washington has won seven of its last nine versus the Blue Jays.
