The Jacksonville Jaguars lost their ninth straight game Sunday, falling to the Tom Savage-led Houston Texans, 21-20. The loss obviously furthered the already mounting frustration in Jacksonville, capped off by the Sunday firing of coach Gus Bradley.
Cornerback Jalen Ramsey, the Jaguars' star rookie, was especially frustrated afterward -- not necessarily with his teammates, but with the officiating crew. He, as Redskins cornerback Josh Norman did earlier in the year, called out an official specifically for being especially terrible. The first-year corner went as far as to say he should be canned for being a "homer."
"Specifically I want to call out, I don't know his name, I don't really care for it, field judge No. 104," Ramsey said, via Chron.com. "By far the worst official in the NFL. He needs to be fired 100 percent -- terrible, terrible, terrible."
The reason Ramsey was so frustrated was because his mouthpiece somehow ended up on the Texans' sideline. And he claims the only way that could have happened is by a Texans player putting his hands on Ramsey's helmet -- or an illegal use of hands.
"All I know is I started that drive with my mouthpiece on my helmet, I ended that drive and my mouthpiece was on their sideline," Ramsey said. "I'm not sure how that happens without getting called hands to the face but it did."
Ramsey, who picked off his first NFL pass Sunday, may be a rookie by his experience in the league, but you'd never know it by the way he plays and talks. He's remarkably confident in himself and his ability, and it shows in his game. It's also apparent in his constant jawing.
Just this season, the rookie corner has gotten into it with the likes of Steve Smith, saying he's an "old man." He also called out Aaron Rodgers in the first week of the season.
His most outlandish claim to date, however, is Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins being related to the official, Dale Shaw, whom he called out on Sunday.
"[Shaw] may be a kin to Hopkins or something, I don't know," Ramsey said. "He's just a homer, I feel like the whole officiating crew they were homers."
Not surprisingly, Hopkins denied Ramsey's accusation, saying "he's frustrated his team lost."
