Lorne Jackson's layup with 3.5 seconds remaining gave Pepperdine a 60-59 victory over Division II Fresno Pacific Friday night.

Jackson, who finished with 16 points, also made a 3-pointer with 17.3 seconds to play for the Waves, but the Sunbirds' Matt Samuels answered with a layup with 8 seconds left to put Fresno Pacific ahead 59-58. There were 18 lead changes and neither team led by more than four points after halftime.

Stacy Davis led Pepperdine (8-5) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Nikolas Skouen added 12 points for the Waves, who open their West Coast Conference season Thursday at home against No. 13 Gonzaga.

Trevon Clayton led Fresno Pacific, which counted the game as an exhibition, with 15 points and eight rebounds. Samuels scored 13 points. The Sunbirds' top two scorers, John Taylor and Malcolm Griffin, did not play because they were stuck in the Midwest for weather-related reasons.
