Monterrey, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) - Second seed Ana Ivanovic and No. 3 seed Caroline Wozniacki will meet in the semifinals at the $500,000 Monterrey Open after both women won matches on Friday.
Wozniacki rallied to beat Czech Karolina Pliskova, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-3 on the hardcourts at Club Sonoma. Wozniacki overcame 10 aces from her opponent. The Dane also double faulted six times, but made up for the shortcomings.
Ivanovic, also a former world No. 1, got by sixth-seeded Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova, 6-1, 0-6, 6-2 in the final match of the night.
It sets up a semifinal between two players who haven't met on the court since 2012. Ivanovic leads the all-time series, 3-2, and the Serbian claimed the last meeting in 2012 at Indian Wells.
The other semifinal will be between Japan's Kimiko Date-Krumm and Serbian Jovana Jaksic. The 43-year-old Date-Krumm bested Puerto Rican Monica Puig, the No. 8 seed, 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4. Jaksic toppled American qualifier Julia Boserup, 6-3, 6-0.
This week's winner will earn $111,389.
