Linz, Austria (SportsNetwork.com) - Former world No. 1 and two-time champion Ana Ivanovic was an easy winner, while fourth seed Andrea Petkovic came up an opening-round loser Tuesday at the Generali Ladies Linz tennis event.
The second-seeded Serbian star and recent Tokyo titlist Ivanovic took care of France's Pauline Parmentier 6-3, 6-2, while talented Italian Camila Giorgi flattened the German former top-10 star Petkovic 6-1, 6-2 at TipsArena Linz.
The 2008 and 2010 Linz champion Ivanovic was last year's runner-up to German Angelique Kerber.
Up next for Ivanovic will be American qualifier Madison Brengle.
Seventh-seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova advanced by tackling Belgian Kirsten Flipkens 6-2, 6-4 on Day 2.
Meanwhile, Brengle beat Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 7-5, 3-1, retired; Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova edged out Estonian Kaia Kanepi 6-4, 5-7, 6-2; German Mona Barthel mauled Dutch lucky loser Kiki Bertens 6-3, 6-1; Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova drubbed Austrian wild card Lisa-Maria Moser 6-2, 6-3; and Czech Klara Koukalova held off Czech qualifier Katerina Siniakova 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Additional wins came for Slovak Jana Cepelova and Tunisian qualifier Ons Jabeur.
On Wednesday, top-seeded Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard will face Austrian wild card Patricia Mayr-Achleitner in a first-rounder.
The 2014 Linz titlist will earn $43,000.
