LONDON – English soccer authorities have blocked an Italian businessman from buying the second-tier club Leeds because of a tax conviction.
The Football League says Massimo Cellino's recent conviction in Italy constituted a "disqualifying condition under its owners' and directors' test."
The decision leaves Leeds in ownership limbo. Cellino has already paid more than $3.3 million into the northern England club.
Cellino has 14 days to appeal the Football League board's decision.
