Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia is expected to be sidelined for the next month because of a thigh injury suffered in training.

Ranocchia was experiencing discomfort in his right leg and tests have confirmed a second-degree thigh muscle pull, which will rule him out of Italy's upcoming friendly with the United States on Wednesday.

The injury also figures to keep him out of the second leg of Inter's Champions League encounter with Marseille on March 13, which the French side leads 1-0 after 90 minutes.

The 24-year-old has started eight games in Serie A for Inter this season, scoring one goal.
