Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore underwent microdiscectomy surgery on Thursday and is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks.

The procedure, in which a small portion of the spine is removed to allow a nerve to heal, was performed in Miami by Dr. Barth Green.

The three-time All Star is a career .269 hitter, but has been limited to 104 games over the past two seasons while battling several injuries.

Through 71 games for the Indians last season, Sizemore hit .224 with 21 doubles, 10 home runs and 32 RBI.
