Indiana starting quarterback Nate Sudfeld will undergo season-ending surgery on his injured left shoulder on Thursday.

The junior injured his shoulder Saturday in the second quarter of Indiana's 45-29 loss to Iowa.

Indiana will turn to true freshman Chris Covington to fill the void. He was recruited with the potential to play on the defensive side, but the coaching staff switched him to quarterback after seeing his arm strength.

Covington took over for Sudfeld last weekend and completed three of 12 passes for 31 yards and had two interceptions.

Indiana will host No. 8 Michigan State on Saturday, a team that is tied for 8th for sacks in the FBS with 22.
