London, England – Kazakhstan's Ilya Ilyin set a pair of world records Saturday on his way to the gold medal in the men's 94-kilogram weightlifting competition.
Ilyin, the defending Olympic champion, lifted 185kg in the snatch, then managed 233kg in the clean and jerk to set the world mark. That also gave him the record with 418 total kilograms.
Russian Alexandr Ivanov took silver with a total of 409, while Anatoli Ciricu won bronze. He and Russian Andrey Demanov both had a total of 407kg, but the Moldovan Ciricu took the medal because of lower body weight.
