Normal, IL – Illinois State and Ball State have switched opening football games in 2013 and '14, the ISU athletics department announced Thursday.
Illinois State is undergoing renovation at its Hancock Stadium and the switch will ensure the proper amount of time to complete the project
Ball State, from the Mid-American Conference of the FBS, will host Illinois State, from the Missouri Valley Football Conference on the FCS level, on Aug. 29, 2013.
Illinois State will host the second game of the home-and-home series on Aug. 28, 2014. It will be the first visit to Hancock Stadium by an FBS team since 1987, when the Redbirds beat Western Michigan, 20-6.
Ball State owns an 11-5 lead in the series against Illinois State.
