Hoffenhiem smashes Hertha Berlin

Berlin, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Sejad Salihovic netted a pair of first- half goals on Sunday as Hoffenheim smashed Hertha Berlin, 5-0, at the Olympic Stadium.

Things got off to a rocky start for Hertha Berlin as the visiting side went in front after 23 minutes thanks to an own goal from United States international defender John Anthony Brooks.

Salihovic then got into the scoring mood with a penalty kick conversion after 26 minutes and he converted a second penalty kick six minutes before the intermission.

Hertha Berlin failed to create many offensive opportunities and Hoffenheim kept the pressure up as Sven Schipplock made it 4-0 in the 74th minute and Sebastian Rudy capped the rout with a fifth goal in the 84th minute to wrap up all three points.

The result sees Hoffenheim jump to seventh place in the Bundesliga on 26 points from 17 matches, while Hertha Berlin drops to 13th with 18 points.

Also in the Bundesliga on Sunday, Leonardo Bittencourt and Joselu found the back of the net inside the final seven minutes as Hannover earned a point in a 2-2 draw with Freiburg.
