There's a major void in Kansas City's backfield now that Jamaal Charles is officially out.
No one player can replace the team's star running back. So it'll be up to general manager John Dorsey to identify the correct combination of backs who can piece some production together.
Here are all the backs Dorsey is reportedly considering, courtesy of the Kansas City Star:
Knile Davis: The Chiefs have a seasoned reserve in Davis who's stepped in for Charles before. He tallied 463 total yards and six touchdowns last season -- but has seen his role diminish in recent weeks.
Charcandrick West: The Chiefs raved about this former UDFA from Abilene Christian. Now, West could parlay that confidence into a jump from Charles' backup to RB1.
De'Anthony Thomas: The most dangerous running back left in Kansas City currently plays wide receiver. Thomas starred as an Oregon ballcarrier and could be moved back from wide receiver in a pinch.
Spencer Ware: Ware should be active for the running back-needy Chiefs. He only has three career carries for 10 yards, though.
Ben Tate: Dorsey has reportedly inquired about the former Auburn product. Tate (540 career carries, 2,363 yards) never quite fulfilled the promise that once made him a second-round pick.
Pierre Thomas: The Chiefs have reportedly inquired about this former Saints star, too. He could add some of of Charles' receiving ability, but none of his explosiveness.
