Heerenveen, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Daley Sinkgraven scored 11 minutes from time on Sunday as Heerenveen knocked off PSV Eindhoven, 1-0, at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.
It was a physical encounter from the outset and Heerenveen went down to 10 men in the 33rd minute after Stefano Marzo was shown a straight red card.
But PSV failed to take advantage and also went down a man in the 69th minute after Joshua Brenet was given his marching orders.
With the teams on even footing for the final 20 minutes, Sinkgraven made the breakthrough for his side in the 79th minute and PSV could not answer as the club suffered its second defeat of the Eredivisie season.
Heerenveen climbs to 14 points on the campaign, just one behind PSV for the top spot.
Also in the Eredivisie on Sunday, Twente claimed a comfortable 3-1 win over Utrecht at the De Grolsch Veste behind goals from Kyle Ebecilio, Luc Castaignos and an own goal from Utrecht's Christiaan Kum.
Michael de Leeuw converted a penalty kick just past the half-hour mark to lift Groningen to a 1-0 win over Willem II, while Tom van Weert and Bartholomew Ogbeche traded goals as Excelsior and Cambuur played to a 1-1 draw.
