Hannover, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Hannover completed the signing of forward Jimmy Briand on Friday on a one-year contract.

Briand was a free agent after his previous deal with Lyon expired, and the Bundesliga club scooped up the 29-year-old on a free transfer to add to its options in attack.

"Jimmy Briand has quite a flexible profile, allowing him to play on the wing or through the middle of the attack," said Hannover sporting director Dirk Dufner on the club's website.

After starting his career with Rennes, Briand moved to Lyon in 2010 and went on to net 22 goals in 110 league matches for the club.

Briand has also earned five caps for the French national team, with the last coming in August 2012.

Hannover begins its new Bundesliga campaign on Saturday at home against Schalke.
