New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain and will not pitch again this season.

Sabathia, who was injured Friday night against the San Francisco Giants, will need approximately eight weeks to recover.

In 32 starts this season, Sabathia is 14-13 with a 4.78 ERA and 175 strikeouts (in 211 innings). It is the worst ERA of his 13-season major league career.

The Yankees are four games back in the race for the second AL wild-card berth with six games remaining. But even if New York were to reach the postseason, Sabathia would be unable to pitch.
