Hampton, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Hampton University Director of Athletics Novelle Dickenson announced Tuesday the hiring of Connell Maynor as the newest head coach of the Pirates' football program.

Maynor becomes the 20th head coach in Pirates history. He served the past four seasons as the head coach at Division II Winston-Salem State University. Before that, he was the offensive coordinator at Fayetteville State.

In four seasons at Winston-Salem, Maynor led the Rams to a 45-6 overall record, including a 29-2 mark in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and three straight Division II playoff appearances.

Maynor was named the CIAA Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012.

"I am very excited for the opportunity that Dr. Harvey, Mr. Dickenson, Dr. Smith and Hampton University has given to me," Maynor said.

Hampton finished the 2013 season with a 4-8 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Maynor replaces Donovan Rose, who compiled a 25-30 record in five seasons at Hampton.
