Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price suffered a Grade 2 sprain of the medial collateral ligament of his left knee.

The Gazette reported the news on Saturday, also revealing that the injury will not require surgery and that Price will start rehab on the knee in Montreal before returning home to western Canada.

An earlier report stated that Price would have missed anywhere from 4-to-6 weeks recovering had the Habs advanced past the first round of the NHL Playoffs.

"It's a tough way to go out, but that's playoff-style hockey," said Price at the Habs' practice facility.

Price was hurt in the closing seconds of regulation in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss in Game 4 of the first round against Ottawa. He went into a butterfly, then reached to stop a high shot and was slow to get up.

Peter Budaj ended up finishing that game and started Game 5, which was won by the Senators to end the series.
