New York, NY – It didn't take long for Gennady Golovkin to retain his WBA middleweight title on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, as his fight with Daniel Geale was stopped late in the third round.
Golovkin (30-0) remained unbeaten by sending Geale (30-3) to the canvas in the second round and again in the third.
The second knockdown came after Golovkin quickly shook off a glancing blow and landed a vicious overhand hand to the bridge of Geale's nose, and referee Mike Ortega stopped the fight at the 2:47 mark.
Golovkin has recorded a knockout in 17 consecutive fights.
