The New York Giants have placed one-time Super Bowl hero Mario Manningham and free agent signee Trindon Holliday on injured reserve in reaching the 53-man roster limit.

The Giants announced Saturday that backup quarterback Curtis Painter, fullback John Conner, running back Michael Cox and receiver Julian Talley — members of last year's team — were among the 22 roster moves.

Ryan Nassib will replace Painter as Eli Manning's backup.

New York also terminated the contracts of veteran tight end Kellen Davis and defensive end Israel Idonije.

Manningham made a spectacular sideline catch to ignite the Giants' win over the Patriots in the 2012 Super Bowl. He was re-signed after playing for San Francisco. He has a calf injury.

A former Bronco, Holliday has a hamstring injury.
