Matt Flynn's tenure in New England didn't last long.
The Patriots released Flynn after inking the journeyman quarterback to a one-year deal in June. Replacing him will be former Cardinals signal caller Ryan Lindley.
Flynn had opened training camp on the NFI (non-football injury) list and never passed his physical, according to head coach Bill Belichick. Per Dianna Russini, Flynn had been battling a hamstring injury and was never quite 100 percent.
Lindley appeared in three games (two starts) for the Cardinals in 2014, though he completed just 48.4 percent of his passes. According to ESPN Stats & Info, that ranked last among all signal callers who had attempted at least 75 passes last season.
The San Diego State product also drew the start for the Cardinals in the playoffs because of injuries to Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton. Lindley completed 16-of-28 passes for 82 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in a 27-16 loss against the Carolina Panthers.
Lindley's signing is likely nothing more than an insurance option in case of injury, with Jimmy Garoppolo filling in for the suspended Tom Brady to start 2015.
