New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning national champion Florida State will begin the new college football season atop the Associated Press poll.

The Seminoles will start the season ranked No. 1 for the sixth time, the AP said Sunday.

Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston and the Seminoles ended last season on top after their last-minute win over Auburn in the final BCS title game before this year's switch to the College Football Playoff.

Alabama, last year's preseason No. 1, sits No. 2 behind Florida State. Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Auburn, UCLA, Michigan State, South Carolina and Baylor round out the top 10.

Stanford, Georgia, LSU, Wisconsin, USC, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Arizona State and Kansas State are ranked 11-20.

Texas A&M, Nebraska, North Carolina, Missouri and Washington round out the top 25.

Florida State received 57 of the 60 first-place votes with Alabama, Oregon and Oklahoma getting one each from the national media panel.

The poll is similar to the USA Today Coaches' Poll released last month, which also was topped by Florida State.

Missouri, ranked 24th in the AP poll, does not appear in the coaches' poll. Texas is ranked 24th in the coaches' poll but does not appear in the AP's.
