HOUSTON – Jerome Frink scored 14 points and Marco Porcher Jimenez added 12 points to lead Florida International to a 48-45 win over Texas Southern on Saturday.
Both teams struggled from the field — the Golden Panthers (4-5) shot 36 percent while Texas Southern made only 29 percent of its shots.
FIU scored the last 11 points of the first half to lead 28-22 at the break. The Golden Panthers maintained the lead throughout the second half though the Tigers had a chance to tie in the final minute. They missed a pair of 3-point attempts.
Omar Strong led the Tigers (1-11) with 18 points.
