Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Calgary Flames activated forward Mikael Backlund and defenseman Ladislav Smid off injured reserve on Wednesday.

Backlund had missed 28 games after undergoing an abdominal procedure, while Smid has been out since Dec. 12 when he suffered an abdominal injury in Pittsburgh.

Backlund has one goal and three assists in 11 games, while Smid has an assist in 28 games.

To make room on the roster, the team assigned forward Markus Granlund and defenseman Corey Potter to Adirondack of the American Hockey League.
