The Football Association revealed Thursday that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will not face punishment for confronting referee Mike Dean in the club's match against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Ferguson was irate after Dean had allowed an own goal from Jonny Evans to stand despite Papiss Demba Cisse operating in an offside position.

The Scot was berating the officiating crew but was not sent off. Dean made no mention of Ferguson's behavior in his official match report.

Manchester United won the match 4-3 thanks to a late goal from Javier Hernandez, sending the Red Devils seven points clear at the top of the table.
