Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini faces up to six weeks on the sidelines following wrist surgery, the club announced on Monday.

Fellaini, 26, has missed the past several matches for United while recovering from a back injury and decided to go ahead with wrist surgery he had been dealing with since October.

"We thought his back would be OK after 10 days but it wasn't getting any better," said United boss David Moyes. "We made a decision to get his wrist operated on - get it done quickly. We think it will be six weeks but there's a chance it will be shorter than that.

"It is unlucky," Moyes continued. "He doesn't feel 100 percent fit because of the wrist, he is finding it difficult. We thought the best idea was to move on and give his back plenty of chance to get well as well."

Following a 3-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday, The defending Premier League champions will look to maintain their winning ways when they travel to Hull City on Boxing Day.
