Frisco, TX – FC Dallas announced Thursday that it has signed goalkeeper Raul Fernandez of the Peruvian national team. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Raul Fernandez is a very athletic goalkeeper who has gained a lot of experience playing internationally with Peru," said FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman. "He has a strong command of the box and will compete for the starting position with FC Dallas. He is an extremely motivated individual. I expect he will embrace this opportunity."
Fernandez came up through the youth system of Peruvian club Universitario de Deportes and made his professional debut in July of 2005. After going on to make 143 appearances for the club, the 27-year-old made the switch to Nice of the French first division where he managed to make two appearances.
He has been capped 21 times for Peru.
