NEW YORK (Reuters) - The prospect of ironman Brett Favre finally proving fallible became a little more likely on Friday when he was listed as questionable by the Minnesota Vikings for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Favre has started a record 289 consecutive regular-season games in the NFL but the 41-year-old quarterback said earlier this week he would consider sitting out a game or two because of a lingering elbow injury.
He has had limited participation in practice over the last few days while trying to rest his right elbow which has been hampered by tendinitis for several weeks.
Asked whether a final decision on Favre's status would be left as late as possible before Sunday's game, Childress replied: "It will be right up till then.
"I can't look into a crystal ball and see how he wakes up tomorrow. He could wake up with the gout tomorrow morning."
Favre was frustrated after missing several throws in Monday's 29-20 loss to the New York Jets and said on Wednesday he would contemplate missing a game.
"Any player would have to consider that going through that type of situation where I can (play) but will rest help?" he added. "It would be a consideration.
"It's kind of a funny injury. It could flare up and get worse. I don't know if it's necessarily just going to go away. The most important thing with it is rest."
Favre said his throwing accuracy had been affected, an area of some concern for Childress.
"I've seen the ball this week come out of his hand backwards," Childress said. "Whether that's squeezing it or whether the ball is wet, a lot of different things can happen.
"You are just worried about command and control. Velocity won't be an issue unless he's changing his motion. When you are changing your motion, other things have a chance to go foul."
The Vikings (1-3) are third in the NFC North.
