Hamburg, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Schalke climbed to fifth place in the Bundesliga on Sunday as Jefferson Farfan scored a goal and set up two more in a 3-0 Schalke victory at Hamburg.

With both Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin suffering losses on Saturday, Schalke entered the match with an opportunity to move into fifth place with three points at the HSH Nordbank Arena on Sunday.

And Farfan got things started in the 34th minute with a cross that was headed into the upper right corner of the net by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The visitors then seized control of the match with a pair of goals separated by three minutes early in the second half.

Felipe Santana set up a goal for Farfan in the 53rd minute when he laid a pass off for the Peru international to fire home from inside the penalty area.

Farfan turned provider once more in the 56th when he led a Schalke counter attack that resulted in Max Meyer applying the finishing touch from a Farfan pass.

Hamburg nearly found the net 10 minutes from time when Milan Badelj struck the post, but that is as close as the hosts came to finding a goal and they have now lost their last four games in league play to sit in 16th place, one point from safety.

Sunday's other contest saw last-place Braunschweig earn a point at Werder Bremen with a 0-0 draw.
