San Martin, CA – Tiger Woods wasn't hit when a spectator threw a hot dog in his direction on the seventh green of Sunday's final round at the Frys.com Open.
"Some guy just came running on the green, and he had a hot dog, and evidently -- I don't know how he tried to throw it, but I was kind of focusing on my putt when he started yelling," said Woods after a three-under 68 left him in the middle of the pack.
"Next thing I know he laid on the ground, and looked like he wanted to be arrested really because he laid on the ground, put his hands behind his back and turned his head."
The spectator was arrested and Woods missed the birdie try.
"I guess he wanted to be in the news. And I'm sure he will be," Woods said.
Woods teed it up this week for the first time since a missed cut at the PGA Championship in August. He played in a Fall Series event for the first time this week and next he'll be at the Australian Open, the week before the Presidents Cup.
Fred Couples tabbed him as a captain's pick and asked Woods to play a competitive tournament before the competition in November.
It's been a strange year for Woods. He's battled a leg injury he suffered at the Masters, but he went winless again and fell out of the top 50 in the world rankings.
Sunday's hot dog incident was another strange note to the 2011 season.
Since his sex scandal in the fall of 2009, Woods has heard more heckling than before, but there hasn't been a major incident. Sunday's wasn't either according to Woods.
"He was pretty far away from me, and you know, when he started making the commotion and the gallery started to kind of get into it, I could hear the security behind me, I was still bent over my putt," said Woods. "The fun was kind of disintegrating there."
