Sprint car driver Kevin Swindell was released from the hospital Friday following two surgeries on his back.

Swindell spent eight days in the hospital following a crash in preparations for the Knoxville Nationals.

His family released a statement Friday, saying: "We know there is a long road ahead for him," while asking for donations to help with his recovery.

The family has only said the 26-year-old suffered two fractures in his back and underwent testing for a spinal cord injury.

The 26-year-old Swindell, from Germantown, Tennessee, is the son of famed sprint car driver Sammy Swindell. He is a four-time winner of the Chili Bowl Nationals, and has 30 starts on NASCAR's Xfinity Series.
