FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Tony Gonzalez has found the perfect solution to keep both his family and the Atlanta Falcons happy.
Of course, the 13-time Pro Bowl tight end had plenty of leverage entering his final NFL season.
Gonzalez agreed in March to put off his retirement to return for a fifth year with the Falcons. In turn, the team agreed to let him miss part of training camp to spend time with his family in California.
Neither Gonzalez nor coach Mike Smith said how many days the player will miss, but both added there's no cause for concern.
Gonzalez plans to honor a commitment he made last summer — to watch his son at football practice — but he and Smith both insist the absences from the Falcons won't affect his job performance
