Falcao rescues Atletico against Sociedad
Madrid, Spain – It looked as if Atletico Madrid would stumble off of Barcelona's pace, but Falcao continued his sensational start to the season by scoring in the 89th minute to give his side a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad at the Anoeta on Sunday.
Falcao's dramatic goal was his 10th of the season, leaving him behind only Barca's Lionel Messi for the La Liga scoring lead.
The win sees Atletico stay even with the Catalans for another week as both sides picked up wins in Week 8 of La Liga action. They sit level atop the table on 22 points apiece.
Real Sociedad has lost two in a row to remain on nine points for the season.
Espanyol 3, Rayo Vallecano 2
Barcelona, Spain - Espanyol picked up its first win of the La Liga season on Sunday, earning a dramatic 3-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Estadi Cornella-El Prat.
Verdu and Leo traded braces to see the two sides head into the final quarter of the match tied at two goals apiece. Rayo Vallecano's Mikel Labaka was sent off in the 68th minute while Diego Colotto was given his marching orders nine minutes from time, but Espanyol still managed to claim all three points thanks to Christian Stuani's strike in stoppage time.
Espanyol remains in the relegation zone with five points on the season. Rayo stays put on 10 points as its two-game unbeaten run comes to a halt.
Real Zaragoza 2, Granada 1
Granada, Spain - Real Zaragoza snapped a two-game losing skid on Sunday by claiming a 2-1 victory over 10-man Granada at Los Carmenes.
Helder Postiga and Victor Rodriguez handed the visitors a comfortable lead by the 27-minute mark, and it became even more of an uphill battle for Granada in the 72nd minute when Santos Iriney was sent off. Youssef El Arabi managed t pull one back for the home side, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal.
Real Zaragoza improves to nine points on the season to move one point ahead of Granada.
Levante 1, Getafe 0
Getafe, Spain - Levante grabbed a second straight league win in dramatic fashion on Sunday, scoring three minutes from time in a 1-0 defeat of Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
The visitors were made to wait until the 87th minute for a breakthrough, but Michel sealed all three points with his third goal of the season.
Levante improves to 13 points, 11 points adrift of first-place Barcelona. Getafe's two-game winning run comes to an end as the club stays put on 10 points.
Osasuna 0, Real Betis 0
Navarra, Spain - Osasuna slipped to the La Liga cellar on Sunday after being held to a 0-0 home draw by Real Betis.
Osasuna dropped one spot after Espanyol picked up a 3-2 win over Rayo Vallecano, also on Sunday. The two sides are level on five points but Osasuna sits last on goal differential.
Real Betis, unbeaten in its last two league contests, has managed 13 points through its first eight games.
